Many thanks to all who supported our recent Multicultural Evening. It was a fantastic celebration of culture in St Colmcille’s BNS. Duty of Care / Behaviour in Yard Prior to 8.50 a.m.

This is a reminder with regard to the commencement of the School’s Duty of Care. It is important to bear in mind that parents/ guardians are responsible for their children prior to 8.50 a.m. The boys should arrive in the school grounds no earlier than 8.40  a.m. They should walk directly to their lines and wait until they are collected by their teachers when school begins. Parents or an assigned guardian must remain in the Junior Yard with the younger pupils until they are collected from their lines. We ask the co-operation of parents/ guardians to ensure the safety of our pupils.

Food Dudes

The food Dudes programme was run in the school recently. We are very grateful to everyone who encouraged the boys to eat a variety of fruit and vegetables during the course of the programme. We are also grateful to the many parents who continue to support the initiative by providing their sons with fruit and vegetables as part of their school lunches.

Student Council

The Student Council would like to thank parents who sent in old mobile phones for Autism Ireland. The phones will be exchanged for much needed computer equipment for our school. The final day for bringing old phones is Friday, 7 April.

Junior Infant Enrolment

There will be an information meeting for the parents / guardians of boys who will be starting Junior Infants in the coming school year. The meeting will take place at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 16 May in the school hall.

Book Fair

Sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to our hugely successful Book Fair in early March. The school will receive a share of the profit made during that week. We will use our credit to buy additional books for our class libraries.

Fun Run

On 14 March, we held our first ever Fun Run.  It was a very enjoyable day. The boys who dressed up in St Patrick’s Day clothes brought colour and fun to the event. Sincere thanks to all of the parents who painted faces and sourced outfits for their sons. The Fun Run raised  just over €5,000. The two classes which raised the most money had pizza parties on Friday last.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Bhaineamar an-taitneamh as Seachtain na Gaeilge. Comhghairdeas leis na buachaillí. Bhí siad uilig an-mhaith ag an gComhthionól, sna ranganna agus amuigh sa chlós friesin.

Sporting Activities

  • Training for the Athletics, Gaelic Football, Hurling and Soccer teams continues apace. We extend our best wishes to the players and mentors.
  • We congratulate the players for the manner in which they represent themselves, their families and their school.
  • We thank Fingallians GFC, the FAI and Mr Niall Mc Guirk for providing coaching for our pupils.
  • The boys in Third Class have almost completed their eight-week block of swimming lessons. Many thanks to their parents for supporting this very worthwhile initiative.

Parking at entrances to the school grounds

Parents are asked to be mindful of local residents when parking their cars or dropping/ collecting their children. Local residents have expressed their frustration at being unable to move their cars from their driveways because of other cars blocking them.

Absence due to illness.

If your son is unwell and unable to attend school, please send a note to his teacher on his return to school. If the illness is likely to affect other boys or staff (for eg. Chicken pox, mumps, slapped cheek etc.) we would appreciate a phone call or email as soon as you are aware of the illness. From time to time, we have pupils and staff members who are receiving treatment for serious illnesses and this information may be important. In addition, there are a number of common childhood illnesses which can be harmful to pregnant women. We appreciate your thoughtfulness in this regard.
